SWOT analysis generator with TOWS strategies
Type your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (one per line) and get a clean SWOT matrix plus TOWS strategy prompts that pair each strength and weakness with an opportunity or threat.
How to use it
- Enter your business name.
- Add three to six items to each box. Use the grey prompts if you are stuck.
- Read the TOWS prompts under the matrix: each one is a candidate strategy.
- Copy or download the result as Markdown to share with your team.
Method
The matrix groups internal factors (strengths, weaknesses) and external factors (opportunities, threats). The TOWS section follows Heinz Weihrich's 1982 method: it pairs the first items of each quadrant to generate SO (use a strength to capture an opportunity), ST (use a strength to counter a threat), WO (fix a weakness to unlock an opportunity) and WT (reduce exposure) strategies. Put your most important items first in each box.
Worked example
A café lists “in-house roasting” as a strength and “office coffee subscriptions” as an opportunity. The SO prompt becomes: use in-house roasting to capture office coffee subscriptions. Its weakness “weak delivery presence” paired with the threat “a delivery-only brand is growing” becomes a WT priority.
How to read the result
Treat each TOWS line as a hypothesis to evaluate, not a finished plan. Keep the two or three that are specific, affordable and tied to evidence, and turn them into actions with owners and dates.
Limitations
- The generator does not check whether your entries are true: base each line on evidence such as reviews, scores or prices.
- TOWS prompts pair items mechanically; some pairings will not make sense.
- For a SWOT generated from real competitor data, use the full workspace.
